Best sushi in Flagler County. It's a block from the beach too so it makes for a nice date night.
Admittedly, when the wife suggested we satisfy her craving for sushi by stopping in at a Flagler Beach joint on our trip back from Beachside Brew Pub in Ormond, I was a little dubious. Thankfully I didn't push back.
This was takeout, but there are seats available inside. Service was excellent for takeout, with the girl working the register having a takeout menu in hand and ready for me by the time I made it to the counter where one orders. The sushi chef himself piped in when I asked about the wait time...saying it would be speedy 10 minutes. Granted, there was only one other patron in the place.
The two rolls that we had were the best stuff on the plate, hands-down. Big rolls, loaded with fish and veggies. They were exactly what we expected from reading the description.
Prices for sushi are per piece. They were large pieces of fish, atop very good sushi rice. Total for a very generous amount of food was $60 out the door. I did add a $10 tip for the sushi chef and gal at the register. This ain't bad for the lineup we got. And we didn't go hungry...the wife stopped without finishing "her half" - bonus for me!
As for our order, overall, it was excellent. Here's the take (all of which are posted in the photos):
Seaweed salad - solid rendition, on a bed of thinly shred carrots (used to cucumbers)...if you like this salad mild, you'll like theirs. I like a little more vinegar in mine.
Flying fish roe (5) - I like flying fish roe (red) over smelt roe. This was the star of the plate, although I wish they offered quail egg.
Yellowtail sushi (5) - sweet, fresh, mild, tender. Excellent.
Hawaii roll (5+) - just wow...if you like a rainbow roll, you'll love this. Get it...excellent+
Spicy tuna roll (5) - they took the very good tuna and made it better. Not overpowering (to my taste anyway) but enough of a kick to earn its name. Strong recommendation...excellent.
Tuna sushi (4) - mild, tender, not as fresh as the yellowtail, very good.
Eel sushi (4) - tender, sweet sauce, very good dessert
Salmon sushi (3) - the weakest offering, one piece was stringy, both tasted old, and a little musty. One piece was quite edible.
In the end, this is a full-on recommendation. Flagler Beach continues to impress me, with the Flagler Beachfront Winery, the Flagler Fish Company, the Turtle Shack, and Breakerz being just a few examples of the fine places to visit.
I've been there with my wife and we liked it. We've ordered miso soup and it was a good but not hot enough. We expected that it's going to be hotter. Also I have ordered a golden dragon roll and was a happy. The sushi rolls was so good. I've really liked it and I'm pretty sure I'm going to try it one more time. By the way you pay for your food at the register in the beginning when you order it. I found that to be convenient. Location is convenient as well. It's right by the beach and has outside seating.
A hidden Sushi Gem in Flagler Beach! We have eaten there several times and always leave satisfied. Fresh sushi and outdoor seating that is dog friendly. Worth a visit for sure!!
I'm very glad this place lived upto the hype. On vacation over the weekend, my partner and I tried to drop by a few times only to miss lunch and dinner hours but made it a point to stop there before driving back. The only negative is how early they close.
Food: Amazing is the key word here. We got the Ultimate Chirashi Bowl, hoping to sample more of the menu but the portion was so large we were both pretty full. The fish was so so fresh (especially the tuna) that it melts in your mouth. Complementary sweet and vinegar flavors only enhanced the natural taste of the sashimi.
Service: We were the first people there as soon as they opened. I imagine this place probably gets busy around lunch time but we were lucky to have missed the crowd. Service was prompt and the staff was very friendly.
We will definitely swing by if in the area again.
